| World-wide Preview for MANCC Fundraiser |
|
The Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC) is holding a fundraiser for the MANCC Student Scholarship Fund on January 12, 2008, which will include the only world-wide preview of Les écailles de la mémoire (The scales of memory), a new work by Jawole Willa Jo Zollar and her company Urban Bush Women (NY) and Germaine Acogny and her company JANT-BI (Senegal). Les écailles de la mémoire (The scales of memory) explores themes of memory, resistance and love while highlighting the visceral link between African-Americans and Africans. The work has evolved through intensive research in Toubab Dialow, Senegal, and Tallahassee, Florida, with support from MANCC and Florida State University (FSU). The work will be finished at FSU the week leading up to the preview in preparation for the world premiere and 20 site U.S. tour including the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Brooklyn Academy of Music’s prestigious “Next Wave Festival.”
