Frequently Asked Questions
Where are the MANCC offices located?
The MANCC offices are located in Montgomery Hall on the Florida State Campus next to Landis Green. Driving & parking directions can be found here: (directions).

What does the name MANCC mean?
MANCC (pronounced man-see) is an acronym for the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography.

How do I join your mailing or e-mail list?
Please call (850) 645-2894 or email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to be placed on our mailing list.

How can I find out more information about upcoming residencies?
Artist residencies are listed here (MANCC calendar), and we encourage you to visit the websites of the artist we are supporting to learn more about their activities, and where you might see them perform.

Does MANCC present performances?
MANCC rarely presents formal performances, as its mission is to provide research time to choreographers exclusive of a performance requirement. MANCC is researching ways to engage the public in ways that are more intimate and engaging than one might find in a formal theater experience, and does invite the public to participate in these events. On rare occasion, MANCC will present performances in a theater or black box in conjunction with a creative residency.

How does the public engage with MANCC artists?
At MANCC, we believe that understanding is necessary for appreciation of any process, and entrypoints are necessary to initiate the process of understanding. An entrypoint is a window into an artist’s creative process. The creation of public entrypoints into the choreographic process is one of the goals of MANCC.

How can my dance company participate in a MANCC residency?
MANCC residencies are offered on a combined invitation and application basis. If you are interested in participating, please add us to your mailing list, and be sure to invite us to see your work live. It is on rare occasion that we will engage with an artist for a residency without seeing the work live.

It is worth noting that we are currently not engaged in teaching residencies, or residencies to create or restage work on our students, as this is the role of our Dance Department (FSU Dance). We are also currently not presenting work as this is the role of Florida State University’s performing arts festival, Seven Days of Opening Nights (Seven Days). MANCC is interested in supporting research and development opportunities for choreographers who have a level of national visibility and/or significance. Because MANCC is the first National Center for Choreography in the United States, we must take our title, and our position within the U.S. dance field very seriously.

How can I support the efforts of MANCC?
You can be most supportive by being curious, and open to learning about the arts and our artists in a new manner. Our ultimate goal is to infuse a much-needed tier of support for choreographic research and development in our U.S. dance ecology by encouraging the development of many of these centers across the country.
