About MANCC
MANCC (pronounced man-see), a dance and choreographic research center, is housed in the newly renovated dance facilities in the Montgomery Hall on the Florida State University (FSU) campus. MANCC and FSU’s celebrated Department of Dance (FSU Dance) share the former 1920’s athletic building which historically embodied a rich athletic department including a bowling alley, swimming pool, gymnasium and basketball court. The Collegiate Gothic style structure underwent a $17 million retrofitting in 2004, establishing it as one of the premier facilities for dance in the United States. The eclectic design of the building includes split-levels and numerous stairwells and corridors leading to the dance spaces, which in itself motivates movement and intrigue. MANCC seeks to compliment the activities of the Dance Department (FSU Dance) by strengthening and enhancing interaction between dance practitioners operating within and outside of an academic setting.

The mission of the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography
is to raise the value of the creative process in dance by:

1) providing a model of support for professional choreographic creativity within a comprehensive research university.

2) providing choreographers access to a stimulating environment where experimentation, exploration and life-long learning are both valued and encouraged, and

3) providing opportunities for the students, staff, and faculty, the community of Tallahassee and the national dance field at large to engage with the creative process in dance.
