Research Topics: home – displacement – indigenousness
Johnson will explore a new solo work with collaborating multi-instrumentalists and performers. “In recent years, I have become focused on ideas of home/displacement/origin, including both "natural" and "urban" architectures; language in relation to meaning and the ways it shapes how we perceive our experiences; my Nativeness, which includes a growing interest in storytelling, the importance of dance and story in Yup'ik culture, confusion between Native and non Native people, preconceived notions, and blatant transgressions (ranging from current, slight ignorance, to missionary methods, forced removal, cultural killing and murder).”
